The Bird Hide

The Potted Garden is keen on wildlife and is proud to be a sponsor of the Kent Wildlife Trust.

We have a wildlife area, with a bird hide for visitors to watch our feathered and furry 'friends' from. Some of the creatures we have seen include a pair of ducks, a stoat, a weasel and even a hedgehog! We have hung a board in the hide on which you will find details of all the species of birds seen in the garden, for such a small area it's quite a long list.

Each year we try to do something new to enhance the appeal of the site for the wildlife; Last year we added more next boxes and planted a crab apple in the wildlife garden, this was much appreciated by the blackbirds. This year, during the summer, we will revamp the wildlife garden by digging a new, much larger pond.

The photographs above are of a Great Tit using our small pond for a bath, a Common Toad which was taking shelter from a Magpie in one of the tunnels, a Robin visiting the office for worms and a Great Tit coming to the hand for some mealworms to feed to its young.

The new pond is currently being constructed, so bird watching may not be possible when you visit. August 2010.
